Esteemed fisherman and author, Peter Budryk, has joined Hooked-in. His first catch report posted on Hooked-in was an 80.0 lb. Bluefin Tuna caught off the tip of Cape Cod on light tackle. Nice fish and a great story.
Peter is a former Lecturer in Education at Wesleyan University in CT where he was Director of Upward Bound and Founder and Executive Director of Wesleyan’s Great Hollow Wilderness School. He has written for Cape Cod magazine, Cape Cod Life, On The Water, ESPNoutdoors.com, FlyFisherman.com, and NESN.com.
Peter is also the author of two award winning books on fishing: Trout & Salmon Lakes of Connecticut and How To Fish Them and Innermost Waters: Fishing Cape Cod Ponds & Lakes. Trout & Salmon lakes of CT was judged by the New England Outdoor Writers Association, the country’s oldest such group, as 2nd best book in their 2007 Annual Excellence in Craft Competition. And guess who got 1st place? Peter again with his Innermost Waters book!
Here is the overview of Innermost Waters from On Cape Publications:
"Cape Cod is world-famous for its saltwater fishing, but as many local fishing enthusiast will attest, the peninsula’s best kept secret may well be its phenomenal freshwater fishing. Indeed, it could be argued that Cape Cod’s famed 365 ponds and lakes offer the best freshwater fishing in all of New England. In The Innermost Waters: Fishing Cape Cod’s Ponds and Lakes, author Peter Budryk not only provides all the details needed to catch trophy fish on the Cape, but he does so based on a philosophy of respect, for both the outdoor world and the many fine men and women who have embraced the art of angling here. This is outdoor writing at its very best.

According to Peter in an email he wrote me:
"It took me 15 years of part time research and writing to produce the CT book and 5 years of much more than part time to generate the Cape Cod book, which is the first book ever published on the subject. The lore and techniques in the book are not only from my own 30+ years of fishing the Cape, but also the distilled wisdom of a panel of 15 local experts representing well over 400 aggregate years of Cape Cod fishing experience who helped me make the product a thoroughly focused guidebook. Readers will be astonished at just how spectacular the fresh water fishing is on Cape Cod-perhaps the best in the entire Northeast. Virtually all of the fish in the 105+ photos are trophies. Just check out the pair of monster smallmouth bass in Roy Leyva’s hands (MA Angler of the Year 2003, 2004, & soon to be MA Master Angler of the Year, and one of my book’s experts) on the cover of the book. Maps, directions, and specific baits, lures, flies and techniques for all of the best lakes and ponds in all of the Cape’s 15 towns are included in its 230, 9”/12” large format pages."
This guy knows his stuff! Of course, I immediately bought his book and am anxiously awaiting delivery from Amazon. I thought you might be interested in the book. Here are links to some major booksellers:
I am quite honored to have Peter as a new member of Hooked-in!
